“The Ultimate Rule ought to be: ‘If which sounds Great to you, which’s bitchin’; if which sounds BAD to YOU, which’s shitty. The more your musical experience, the easier which can be to define for yourself what you like as well as also what you don’t like.” ~ Frank Zappa
which can be normal which we music lovers make honest attempts to classify music. Some classify by music genre as well as also sub-genre. Others divide which between commercial, academic, folkloric or favorite. as well as also maybe you’ve heard which there are those who separate which into two basic groups: Great as well as also bad. The Great as well as also bad way may come a little close, although which’s still not my way of classifying music. The thing can be, I dislike the idea which me or anybody else may claim to be the reigning judge with absolute authority to decide which music can be Great as well as also which can be bad.
I prefer which the determining factor be: my own taste. To each his or her own taste. Let each person decide for themselves the music they like or dislike.
as well as also what can be the music I like, like? I don’t know what your’s can be like, although mine can be honest, expressive, passionate, original, innovative, risky, profound as well as also intense. which can be the one which makes me move my body. I say which This specific way because the movements I make I wouldn’t necessarily call dancing (hahaha). which can be the one which gives me goosebumps as well as also makes me laugh, cry or sigh.
I like hypnotic music, the one which has what Spanish people refer to as duende. which’s the one which traps me, forces me to quit whatever I’m doing as well as also give which all my attention. I like the one which transports me to another place, time or feeling. I like the one which makes me want to participate, even if which’s just by hitting my glass using a fork. I love the one which surprises me as well as also activates my imagination. I’m seduced by the one which’s hard to classify as well as also challenges all stereotypes. I’m conquered by the one which’s humble as well as also positive, inspires me to be a better person as well as also can be part of the solution (not the problem).
The one I don’t like can be cold, empty, predictable, superficial, generic as well as also full of clichés. I don’t appreciate which when someone tries to impress me as well as also wants to demonstrate how much they know as well as also how fast they play. I’m not a big fan of mazacotes, mano a mano, pirouettes or contests. I truly don’t like music which sounds like math, blah, blah, blah or filling. I don’t like which when I have to analyse which to understand which or when which can be so hollow which which give me a brain short-circuit.
The exciting thing about classifying music according to our taste can be which which can be practically impossible to find two which are exactly the same. Our taste can be part of our identity, like some kind of musical fingerprint of DNA. which can be another way of expressing who we are, where we are as well as also where we are going. which shows where we are because our taste continually expands as well as also contracts. which shows where we are going because which can be the compass which directs our steps as well as also traces our path.
Tastes change because we change. We have brand new experiences as well as also discover brand new musics. Meanwhile, we stop liking some of the musics we used to like. which’s sort of like when you run into as well as also ex as well as also think to yourself: how could I have been attracted to This specific person?
Not everyone which ever wanted to be a rock star still rocks. Some keep their inner rocker hidden within the closet (hehehe). although there are also possess the die-hard beboppers, hip-hopers as well as also rockers. which’s great which we have them around. As far as me goes, I know the music I listened to during my childhood will always have a special place in my heart.
There are music tastes which turn into a kind of religion or exclusive club whose members reject anyone which doesn’t idolize the same musics as well as also artists as they do. They usually go around in groups judging, criticising as well as also creating fun of the people who are no like them. Yes! Music elitists exist. They are the ones which think which their own music as well as also the music they enjoy can be the Great one as well as also the others are the bad ones. They also think which if someone doesn’t like their music which’s because they’re inferior beings with bad taste who know nothing about nothing about nothing.
Maybe you have also had a close encounter using a music elitist somewhere. which’s been a long time since I belonged to any religion or club. Something tells me which I never again will. I don’t fall in love with genres anymore. I fall in love with artists. Sometimes the honeymoon will last very little as well as also different times which ends up becoming one of those rare ’til death do us part types of marriage.
I fall in love with artists which make their way through life evident as well as also express themselves using a unique as well as also original accent. I fall in love with the authentic ones. I fall head over heals for the ones which are capable of surprising me by moving music forward into worlds which are still unknown to me. I’m captivated by the ones which are true brave leaders as well as also pioneers, the ones which take risks, remain faithful to their identity no matter what as well as also carry inside them which burning desire for freedom.
To conclude, my way of classifying music can be This specific:
- The music I dislike (the one which makes want to change the station, listen to the commercials o choose silence rather than keep listening to which)
- The music I don’t like
- The music I respect, although don’t like
- The music I like
- The music I respect as well as also like
- The music I absolutely love (the one which traps me as well as also forces me to quit whatever I’m doing as well as also give which all my attention)
as well as also yet, I could never classify my music using This specific system. If my music can be liked or not can be not up to me. different people have to decide which for themselves. If I had to classify my music I might simply call which a musical self-portrait or autobiography.
How do you classify music? What’s the music you like, like? as well as also the one you don’t like?
